Lessa couldn't help but think that linking arms with him probably wasn't a good thing so she slowly pulled her arm back and lifted her head once again. She was slowly starting to feel better but she knew that she'd have a hard time concentrating on keeping the shield up any longer. She glanced at Laken, "I'm sorry.." She stated before she let the shield drop completely. She didn't have enough energy to keep it up any longer.
She sighed because she was rather disappointed in herself but he could still focus on her mind, "We can go somewhere that's not as crowded if you want.. I just don't have the energy to keep it up any longer." Lessa hated when she felt she was too weak to keep it up but she hadn't had much experience with keeping it up for a long period of time. She'd have to keep working on it, and with Laken around it wouldn't be so hard. That is if he decided to stay around. Lessa wasn't really sure.
After a while he finally spoke and told her that he felt the same way she did. That he was unlovable as well. She couldn't help but wonder what had happened to him in his past but she wasn't going to ask. If he ever wanted to tell her then he would. She also couldn't help but wonder why he would think that. Lessa hadn't none him very long and she could already see herself falling for him, not that she would ever let know that. At least not right now anyways. It was way too soon to tell him anything like that.
Although she really did want him to know. A bigger part of her hated that he felt that way. She sighed as she focused on him again, "Believe me when I say that you are far from unlovable. Maybe one day I'll convince you of that." She knew that she should give a reason as to why she said that but she didn't wanna scare him off either. He might think it a little weird if she told him that already. So she just left the statement at that and let it go.
The easiest thing for her would have just been to let down the shield over her mind and let him hear her thoughts for himself but there again, she still wasn't sure it was a good idea. She wasn't sure she wanted him to know exactly how much she liked him already. They had just met literally a few hours again and it was really too soon to tell. Slowly, she stood to her feet and turned to look at him, "Wanna head back to the school?" She was sure they could find a place there that was a little more quiet or the two of them could go their separate ways for the day. She'd let him decide.

we've got it good whether you like this town or not When the barrier between Laken and the world came down it was a bit overwhelming at first, but easy to adjust to. At least Lessa had warned him that she was putting down the shield. Absentmindedly Laken rubbed his temples with his hand trying to dull down the rush of thoughts. Though the thoughts dulled a bit at his concentration he could still hear the random thoughts of the passing group of middle aged women, apparently one of them had just lost their job and the rest were there to console her. There were also several other groups around, like some teenagers freaking out over relationship drama and an elderly women and her husband walking to their car after going to the convenience store, worrying if they had enough money for the week.
”Yeah lets get out of here,” Laken said without hesitation and standing from the bench back to his towering height. Laken would go anywhere where the crowd wasn’t thick with people. Sometimes Laken wished that people could just stop thinking for once, but Laken knows that that is impossible. If the world stopped thinking then everyone would just be shells of imbeciles doing whatever they want to do without thinking before doing so.
”The school sounds great,” Laken said and started walking in the direction. He had completely ignored what Lessa had said about proving that he was lovable. Laken knew better than to think that, many people have tried to show that they care but have failed miserably. Of course it wasn’t obvious how everyone failed; it was their thoughts that betrayed them. Sometimes people had ulterior motives, mostly the girls that is. All the girls seemed to shove themselves at Laken, but Lessa didn’t do that and Laken was grateful for it, even though she thought he could be loved.
”Come on I know the perfect place to go,” Laken said and gave Lessa a smile, encouraging her to come with him.
